FIP is a contagious peritonitis (virus).
FIP is a condition caused by the Feline Coronavirus, only cats are affected by this disease. FIP is only contagious to cats, it is not contagious to other animals and humans. FIP is an incurable condition. We see that FIP mainly occurs in cats with a lower natural resistance, but it is also increasingly common in young cats.
In the initial phase, FIP causes symptoms that do not appear to be so serious, such as mild diarrhea. However, when FIP becomes chronic, fluid buildup in the chest or abdominal cavity. This causes breathing problems and shortness of breath. Other symptoms include lethargy, fever, weight loss, abdominal distention, jaundice, diarrhea and weight loss.
In severe FIP, the neurological system can be affected. The movement mechanism is weakened, making it more difficult to get up and walk. A cat can even become paralyzed.
Determining FIP is difficult. The vet can examine the abdominal fluid. If this has an increased concentrate of proteins and if it is somewhat yellow and slimy, this strongly points in the direction of FIP.
Because FIP is not curable, treatment is mainly aimed at reducing symptoms. It is important that the immune system is strengthened and the virus is reduced. Strengthening the Immune System can be obtained with the Immunity Complex. Reducing the virus can be realized with Wan Xi. The Wan Xi is suitable for dry(chronic) and wet(acute, fluid in the abdominal cavity and/or chest) FIP.
